Men's Soccer Earns Top Seed in NJCAA Region III Tournament
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The #2 nationally ranked Lakers, who finished the regular season 15–1–1 (6–0), will host the #8 regionally-ranked Ononaga Lazers at 7 PM on the FLCC Multi-use Turf.
Finger Lakes enters the postseason unbeaten in its last 12 matches, with its only blemishes of the year coming in a 3–1 loss to Division I Monroe CC and a 2–2 draw with Jamestown.
Offensively, the Lakers have been among the most dominant programs in the country, leading NJCAA Division III in goals (100), assists (72), penalty kicks (7-for-10), shutouts (11), and home attendance.
The Lakers' attack has been driven by Robin Giesing (Essen, Germany/Gymnasium-Essen-Werden), who leads the nation with 28 goals and 63 points. Daniel Ojedayo (Ibadan, Nigeria/Opicc) follows with 13 goals, while Finn Atkinson (Warrington, England/Kings Leadership Academy) has contributed 9 goals and 12 assists, ranking second nationally in assists. Germán Guzzi (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Imei) and Bautista Suarez (Salta, Argentina/Colegio Belgrano) round out the top five scorers with 8 and 7 goals, respectively.
In goal, Joshua Koobs (Leverkusen, Germany/Werner Heisenberg Gymnasium), Harry Eastwick (Christchurch, New Zealand/St. Thomas of Canterbury College), and Matt Walton (Birmingham, England/Walsall Academy) have combined for 11 clean sheets, anchoring one of the most balanced teams in the nation.
The Lakers enter postseason play as the top seed in both Region III and the Mid-State Athletic Conference, looking to defend their regional title and advance to the NJCAA North A District Championship hosted by Genesee Community College on Saturday, November 1st.
