CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team hosted the Syracuse University club team on Tuesday night. In the home finale, the Lakers earned a hard-fought victory in five sets. With this win, the Laker home record finishes at a perfect 12-0 – while their overall record sits at a strong 24-3.
The Lakers came out as victors on sophomore night, taking down the Orange of Syracuse University, 3-2. Sophomore Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) once again led the charge for the Lakers offense, finishing the night with 15 kills on a .419 hitting percentage. Ferris was a force at the net too, bringing in 1 solo block and 7 block assists – contributing to his point total of 20.5. Coming off the bench to add an element of depth was Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) who quickly cemented himself as a catalyst for the offense, posting 10 kills. The freshman would also go on to assist the Lakers in other ways, adding 6 digs and 3 block assists to the stat sheet.
Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) was another key piece to the dynamic attack of the Laker squad. Ceravolo – who averages 9.48 assists per set – finished the night with 46. Ceravolo also made his name heard on the defensive side of the ball, bringing in 12 digs. Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) was everywhere, aiding the Lakers in all parts of the game. Lukasiewicz dished out 11 kills on an even .500 hitting percentage – contributing to his point total of 15. Lukasiewicz put in work on the defensive side of the game, bringing in a season-high 13 digs. Sophomores Ian Meeks (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) proved beneficiaries to the Lakers. Meeks, who is coming off an efficient outing against Bryant & Stratton College - Wisconsin, finished the night with 9 kills and 7 digs, assisting the offense and defense. Seymour added his own element to the game, finishing with 4 kills on 9 attempts, rounding out to a hitting percentage of .333. Seymour also met his opponents at the net, concluding the night with 1 solo block and 6 block assists.
The Lakers now look to March 30th, where they travel to Potsdam, New York, to take on Russell Sage College at 2 PM and SUNY Potsdam at 4 PM. As the season winds down, the Lakers will be looking to get into prime position for the playoffs, which will take place in DuPage, Illinois.
