Lakers Blank No. 6 Cayuga in 2–0 Upset Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers delivered their most complete performance of the young season, knocking off nationally-ranked #6 Cayuga with a blend of organized defending and timely finishing to improve to 3–0.

Finger Lakes struck first in the 22nd minute when Noah Gouveia Pflüger (Konstanz, Germany/Heinrich-Suso-Gymnasium) hammered a drive off the underside of the crossbar and in, giving the Lakers a 1–0 lead, created by freshman forward Finn Atkinson (Warrington, England/Kings Leadership Academy Warrington).

The Spartans pressed after halftime, but sophomore goalkeeper Joshua Koobs (Leverkusen, Germany/Werner Heisenberg Gymnasium) turned aside both shots he faced to keep the clean sheet intact. With the match still in reach late, the Lakers put it out of reach in the 84th minute. Robin Giesing (Essen, Germany/Gymnasium-Essen-Werden) found the net for his sixth goal of the season, finishing a setup from Bautista Suarez (Salta, Argentina/Colegio Belgrano) to seal the upset.

Strong goalkeeping and organized defending set the tone, as Finger Lakes limited Cayuga's chances, controlled the midfield, and finished with a 16–7 advantage in shots, including 11 on frame.

Looking Ahead:
The Lakers (3–0) return to the FLCC Multi-Use Turf on Monday, September 1st, for a non-region matchup with the Bryant & Stratton - Rocheste Bobcats at 6 PM.
