Lakers Set for Region III North B District Semifinal vs. Genesee
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The #2-seeded Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team begins its postseason push this weekend, hosting #7 Genesee Community College in the Region III, North B District Semifinal at Putt Moore Court at 1 PM.
The Lakers (25–3) enter Saturday's matchup riding a 20-match win streak, fresh off claiming the 2025 Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship with consecutive sweeps over Genesee and SUNY Jefferson. The Lakers are riding an 8-match win streak against the Cougars, dating back to 2019.
A win would keep history in motion, as the Lakers look to capture an unprecedented fifth consecutive Region III Championship, a feat never accomplished before by a Region III Division III program.
Finger Lakes continues to be powered by Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island), the 2025 MSAC Player of the Year, who leads the Lakers with 283 kills. Kayce Hennekey (Irondequoit, N.Y./West Irondequoit), the 2024 Region III All-Tournament MVP, anchors the middle with a .270 hitting percentage, while Aubrie Tomlinson (Buffalo, N.Y./Frontier) leads the defense with 243 digs. At the helm of the offense, Olivia Scheuer (Constantia, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) has tallied 661 assists, orchestrating one of the most efficient attacks in the nation.
