Women's Volleyball Rolls Through Home Pod with Back-to-Back Sweeps

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball put together a dominant showing in its home pod on Saturday, defeating Erie Community College 3–0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-21) and SUNY Niagara 3–0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-12). The Lakers have now won four straight matches by sweep, improving to 12–3.

Against Erie, the Lakers spread the offense across the lineup while finding separation at the service line. Allyson St. Germain (Cincinnatus, N.Y./Cincinnatus) led with 13 kills, and Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added 10 kills and 2 blocks. Setter Olivia Scheuer (Constantia, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) recorded 29 assists, 11 digs, and 6 service aces. Aubrie Tomlinson (Buffalo, N.Y./Frontier) added 4 aces and 7 digs, while Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) chipped in 4 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces.

The momentum carried into the SUNY Niagara match, where Finger Lakes overpowered the Thunderwolves from the first serve. Gabby Fenton (Buckeye, AZ./Odyssey Institute) hit .500 with 8 kills on 16 swings, while Ava Van Antwerp (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) was efficient in the middle with 4 kills on 6 attempts. Emma Balduf (Bergen, N.Y./Byron-Bergen) sparked the service game with 7 aces to go along with 7 digs, and Addison Paul (Medina, N.Y./Medina) added 6 aces. Balduf led a first-set stretch that turned a 5-4 deficit into a commanding 16-5 lead with six service aces.

As a team, the Lakers served up 24 aces against SUNY Niagara and finished the day with 40 combined across the two matches. Finger Lakes leads the nation in service aces as a team with 202 across 15 matches.
