#7 Women’s Soccer Makes Waves at the National Level

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Concluding an upset victory over #4 Genesee Community College, the Lakers earned the #7 spot in the nation in the recent NJCAA Division III women's soccer rankings.

For the team, several student-athletes have stepped up to reach this historic achievement. Freshman forward Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) has burst onto the scene for the Lakers, sitting first in the nation in points (31) and goals (15). Next to Lewis on the offense is Sophomore Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) who led the team in scoring just a year ago, and currently leads the nation in assists with 6. Lewis and Bowe are currently tied in the 4th position for shots with 32 each.

The Lakers have been backed by stellar play from goalie Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) who recently was named NJCAA Region III Athlete of the Week after strong performances against Jefferson and #8 Genesee Community College. Hall sits as the 6th ranked goalie in the nation with 3 shutouts, 5 goals allowed (lowest in top-10), and a .91% save percentage; the best in the nation for a starter with at least 5 starts.

The Laker's defense has been one of the strong points of the team, with contributions from Tori Armstrong (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye), Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor), Riley Mason (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton), Jenna Tenney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) and Allyson Surdick (Avon, N.Y./ Avon).

Several Freshman including Sierra Somers (Mount Morris, N.Y./ Mount Morris), Natalie Lecceardone (Manchester, N.Y./ Red Jacket), Adiah Northrup (Naples, N.Y./ Naples), and Georgia Luft (Elba, N.Y./ Elba) have stepped in the big moments for the team to lead them to where they are.

As a team, the Lakers hold several top-10 positions in statistical categories, including…

#3 in shots

#5 in goals scored

#9 in shots-per game

#9 in shots on goal

#10 in assists

#2 in corner kicks

#4 in shutouts

#5 in home attendance

The Lakers will continue to be tested during the season, including a matchup with NJCAA Region III opponent SUNY Broome this Sunday, September 25th. In the recent NJCAA Division III women's soccer national rankings, Broome was one of two teams to receive honorable mentions. Previously, the Hornets had held the #10 spot in the nation. Now, we await the decision in the highly anticipated matchup.
