Men's Basketball Falls Short at Home Against Cayuga
Finger Lakes opened with momentum, but Cayuga responded with big runs in both halves to take the win.
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead on its home floor Wednesday evening, but the visting Cayuga Spartans answered with scoring stretches in both halves to hand the Lakers an 83-75 loss.
The Lakers set the tone early, but Cayuga found its rhythm early in the first half, closing with a 41-29 advantage at the break. The Lakers fought back in the second half, outscoring the Spartans 46-42, but the early deficit proved too much.
Ian Florence (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) led the Lakers with 23 points, knocking down 6 three-pointers while adding 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Off the bench, Hunter Martin (Auburn, N.Y./Union Springs) ignited the offense with 18 points, shooting 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.
Damari Davis (Rochester, N.Y./University Prep) finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Joe Caito (Cananadaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) contributed 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Danny Preston (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) gave the Lakers another perimeter lift with 9 points on 3 made three-pointers, and Xxavier Benjamin (Donaldsonville, LA./Donaldsonville) anchored the interior with 8 rebounds.

The Lakers (1-2) will travel to Utica, N.Y. to take on the Mohawk Valley Hawks this Saturday, November 15th at 12 PM.
