Lakers Season Ends in Sub-Regional Round vs. Hudson Valley

Utica, N.Y. - The Lakers season came to a close this past Sunday with losses to nationally ranked #4 Hudson Valley in the Sub-Regional Round. With the losses, the book closes on a Lakers season that featured plenty of ups and downs, but ultimately marked a positive step forward under first-year head coach JT Angora.

Game 1 - Sophomore Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) and freshman Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) led the way offensively for FLCC, each recording multiple hits in the contest. Brehm added a stolen base, while Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) also collected a hit for the Lakers.

On the mound, Nate Power (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) got the start for Finger Lakes, while  Kyle Kumkey (Clifton Springs, N.Y. / Midlakes) provided relief and struck out two batters over 2.1 innings of work.

The Lakers would ultimately fall 10-0 in Game 1.

Game 2 - In Game 2, the Lakers battled throughout the contest but were unable to extend their season against nationally ranked Hudson Valley.

Sophomore Ty Joy (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw), freshman Trevor Pickering (Brooklin, ON., Canada / Brooklin High School), and sophomore Chase Vogtli (Olean, N.Y. / Olean High School) each recorded hits for FLCC, with Vogtli driving in the Lakers' lone run of the game. Pickering also crossed the plate for Finger Lakes.

On the mound, Zach Barrett (Kendall, N.Y. / Kendall) got the start, while Evan Bishop (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge), and Alexander Rogers (Waterloo, N.Y. / Waterloo), both saw action in relief for the Lakers.

The Lakers would ultimately fall 11-2 in Game 2, bringing their season to an end.

The Lakers will look to rebound next season with a strong returning core and a very talented freshman class ready to compete under second-year head coach JT Angora.
