Canandaigua N.Y. - The Lakers completed a four-game sweep of Corning CC in a series that was firmly in their control throughout. On Saturday, the Lakers traveled to Corning and defeated the Red Barons by scores of 13-7 and 10-1. On Sunday, the Lakers returned home and continued their dominant play, earning back-to-back wins of 7-3 and 5-0 to complete the sweep.
Game 1 - The Lakers offense would come alive in this one as they would put up 13 runs on 11 hits in a strong all-around performance at the plate.
Leading the way for the Lakers was Ty Joy (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw), who would go 2-3 with 2 RBI's while also drawing 2 walks and scoring twice. Paul Trippy (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk Senior High School) had a big day as well, finishing 2-3 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI's while also scoring a run. Chase Vogtli (Olean, N.Y. / Olean High School) was perfect at the plate going 2-2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, while also adding a sac fly.
Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) would continue to be a spark at the top of the lineup as he would score 2 runs, drive in a run, and swipe 2 bases. Julian Woodworth (Medina, N.Y. / Medina) would chip in with an RBI, while Nate Brinza would add an RBI of his own in the win.
On the basepaths, the Lakers were aggressive all game long as they tallied multiple stolen bases, highlighted by Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) and Chase Vogtli who each recorded 3 steals on the day. The pressure on the bases would prove to be too much for Corning as the Lakers cruised to the 13-7 victory.
Game 2 - The Lakers would stay hot in game two as they would put up 10 runs on the way to a 10-1 victory.
Leading the way offensively was Zach Huber, who had a huge day at the plate finishing 1-4 with a home run and 5 RBI's while also adding a sac fly. Chase Vogtli would continue his strong day as he went 2-3 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI's, and 2 runs scored. Landen Guadagno (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) would chip in with a nice performance going 2-4 with a double and an RBI, while Trevor Pickering (Brooklin, ON., Canada / Brooklin High School) would add a hit and an RBI while scoring twice. Ty Joy would reach base and score 2 runs, helping set the tone for the offense.
On the basepaths, the Lakers once again applied pressure as they totaled multiple stolen bases, highlighted by Chase Vogtli who recorded 3 steals. Nick Prezioso (Pendleton, N.Y. / Starpoint) would also swipe 2 bases in the win.
On the mound, Kyle Kumkey (Clifton Springs, N.Y. / Midlakes) would turn in a dominant performance, going the distance while allowing just 4 hits and 1 run over 7 innings. He would strike out 7 while issuing only 2 walks to earn the win.
The Lakers offense and aggressive baserunning proved to be too much once again as they secured the doubleheader sweep.
Game 3 - The Lakers would continue their strong play as they picked up a 7-3 victory behind a balanced offensive attack.
Zach Huber would set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 2-3 with a double and a triple while scoring 3 runs and swiping 2 bases. Ty Joy would have a strong day as well, finishing 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's while scoring twice.
Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) would deliver the big blow for the Lakers, blasting 2 home runs and driving in 3 runs in an impressive performance at the plate. Trevor Pickering would also contribute with a 2-3 day, adding an RBI in the win. Nick Prezioso would chip in with a triple and an RBI to round out the offensive effort.
Game 4 - The Lakers would complete the sweep with a 5-0 victory, using a balanced offensive effort and dominant pitching.
Nick Prezioso would lead the way at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Julian Woodworth would also have a strong showing, finishing 2-3 while scoring a run. Nate Brinza would continue his solid weekend, picking up a hit and driving in a run, while Paul Trippy would add an RBI of his own. Ty Joy would reach base and score a run, helping keep the offense moving throughout the game. Chase Vogtli and Trevor Pickering would each contribute with hits, rounding out a complete team effort as the Lakers secured the shutout victory.
On the mound, Zach Barrett (Kendall, N.Y. / Kendall) would get the start and turn in a strong performance, going 4 innings while allowing just 2 hits and striking out 5. Maxim Rudnicki (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) would come on in relief and shut the door, tossing 3 scoreless innings while allowing just 1 hit and striking out 4 to secure the save.
The Lakers return to action on Thursday as they travel to take on the Tompkins Cortland Panthers.
