CANANDAIGUA, N.YThe Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team handled business on sophomore night, knocking down the Hornets of SUNY Broome Community College, three sets to none. The Lakers moved up a spot in the NJCAA DIII volleyball rankings from last week, and are now #2 in the nation. They are riding a hot streak of 18 straight victories, boasting an overall record of 19-2.

Standout setter Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) has made history within the program, as she now holds the all-time career assist record for the FLCC women's volleyball team. Stoddard's 24 assists in the match helped bring her career total up to 1308, which surpassed the previous record of 1284, which Aubrey Davis set in the 2014-15 seasons. Stoddard was a key piece in other departments, too, adding 4 service aces, 3 digs, and a kill to her tally.
The Lakers displayed excellence offensively and defensively, receiving contributions from a handful of players. Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) ushered the offense, pouring in 8 kills on 13 total attempts, rounding out to a hitting percentage of .462. Neureuter also delivered 2 service aces and a dig, contributing to her overall point total of 10. Right along with her was Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island), who brought in a team-high 9 kills, and also had a dig.

On the defensive side of the ball, Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Molly Goulette (Newark, N.Y./Newark), and Emily Jordan (Portville, N.Y./Portville) orchestrated things. Williams had 13 digs – which marked her 16th match of the season with double-digit numbers in that department – while Goulette and Jordan had 6 digs apiece.

The Lakers will look to keep their foot on the pedal for their next matchup, which will take place on Thursday, October 10th when they take on Genesee Community College at 6 PM on the Putt Moore court.
