Lakers Turn in Impressive Performance at Geneseo Meet

Geneseo, N.Y. - The Lakers track and field team traveled to Geneseo to take part in their first outdoor meet of the year, and they did not disappoint. The meet was highlighted by multiple national qualifiers, as well as a number of personal bests and school record-breaking performances.

Hanna Grace Check (Victor, N.Y./Victor) turned in the top performance of the day for the Lakers, setting two school records and qualifying for nationals in all three of her events. In the discus, she recorded a throw of 33.12 meters, breaking the previous school record of 32.30. She continued her dominant showing in the hammer throw with a mark of 34.1 meters, setting another new program record. Regionally, Check now ranks 2nd in the shot put, 1st in the discus, and 1st in the hammer throw in Region III.

Jadah McCarthy (Rochester, N.Y. / Early College) had an impressive day on the track, qualifying for nationals in both the 200m and as part of the women's 4x100 relay team.

William Andrew (Honeoye, N.Y. / Honeoye) posted a personal best in the 10,000m, finishing with a time of 39:22.

Megan McGregor (Marion, N.Y. / Marion Jr. Sr. High School) also recorded a personal best in the 1500m with a strong time of 8:40.

Several Lakers also stepped outside their comfort zones and competed in new events. McGregor took on the 5,000m for the first time, while Nataniel Dawley (Herkimer, N.Y. / Herkimer) made his debut in the long jump.

 

The Lakers will return to action on April 11th as they travel to SUNY Brockport for their next meet.
