Bio

His Plaque Reads: Marty Dodge is the main reason hundreds of FLCC students have been active participants in Woodsmen events. He started enjoying the sport as captain and coach of the Colby College Woodsmen's team from 1962 through 1965. The majority of his working life has been spent as a professor of Natural Resources Conservation while devoting countless hours and unlimited energy to the sport he so dearly loves.

Finger Lakes Community College entered a Woodsmen's competition under coach Dodge for the first time in 1974 with six men and a collection of axes and saws garnered from local yard sales. The men's and women's team compete in crosscut sawing, bow sawing, log rolling, pulp toss, packboard relay, chopping, splitting, canoeing, fire building, chain saw, and other numerous events. The woodsmen's team competes in two or three competitions per semester in the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada.

Under the leadership of Coach Dodge, the men's team has earned the annual championship fifteen times since 1983. The women's team has fourteen championship titles beginning in 1980. More than 30 Finger Lakes Woodsmen Team graduates compete in the professional circuits. Many of our graduates hold world championship titles and have broken world records.

Marty's dedication to our students coupled with his love of the sport have produced outstanding results for over thirty years. The Woodsmen Team has grown to an integral part of the college and the lives of countless students have been forever changed by the efforts of Marty Dodge.
