Lakers Make History with Open Division Win at Northeast Collegiate Logging Sports Championship

Syracuse, New York - The Finger Lakes Community College logging sports team wrapped up its season with a historic performance at the Northeast Collegiate Logging Sports Championship, hosted by SUNY ESF at Oneida Shores Park.

Competing against 11 other colleges and universities from across the Northeast, FLCC stood out as the only two-year school in attendance. The Lakers placed first in the Open Division, second in the Women's Division, third in the Men's Division, and fourth with their second Open team.

The Open Division championship marked the first in program history for FLCC. Since the program was established in 1974, the Lakers have now won 41 championships across all four divisions.

FLCC's Open Division team, led by captain Dylan Peck, along with Riley Tierney, Nate Dawley, Kian Glor, Adrian McLean, and Ethan Miller, edged Alfred State by 14 points out of a possible 1,900 in a dominant showing.

The Open Division was highlighted by a series of first-place finishes: Ethan Miller took first in Single Buck, Dylan Peck won Obstacle Pole, and Adrian McLean and Nate Dawley claimed first in Doubles Fire Build. Peck and Miller added another victory in Doubles Standing Block Chop, while Peck, Dawley, and Miller teamed up for first in the Triples Underhand Chop. The Lakers also secured first in Team Packboard, Pulp Toss, and Log Roll. In the canoe events, Peck and Kian Glor won Singles Canoe, while Miller and Riley Tierney captured first in Portage Canoe.

The FLCC Open second team also made an impact, highlighted by a first-place Disc Stack performance from Michael McHenry.

The Women's team delivered an impressive performance, leading the competition after day one before finishing second overall—just 50 points shy of ESF. Standout performances included Jordis Wojocikowski taking first in Bow Saw Power Stroke, Naomi Weed winning Obstacle Pole, and Ruari Flickner and Gracie Davis placing first in Crosscut to Hell. The team also earned first in Team Bow Saw, while Naomi Weed and Miriam Manning secured first in Portage Canoe.

The Men's team, featuring four first-year athletes alongside two returners, put together an exceptional showing, finishing third and just 50 points out of first place. Highlights included Adam Tylock and Maxximus Manning earning first in Doubles Canoe, while Lucas Green and Ethan Ruttan took first in Portage Canoe.

FLCC was also well represented in the alumni division, as FLCC Alumni 1, led by Owen Probst, finished third, while FLCC Alumni 2, led by Steve Farrand, placed fourth.

The Lakers close out the season proud of their accomplishments and motivated for the future, with a strong core of returning student-athletes set to come back in Fall 2026.
