Logging Sports Hosts Spring Championships
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's and women's logging sports teams hosted the 74th Annual Northeast Collegiate Logging Sports Conclave. The Lakers earned the honor of hosting the Spring championship, and the championship will be hosted at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire in the Spring of 2023.
The competition proved stout, with few points separating the competition. On the day, the Lakers Jack and Jill division secured the highest finish of all teams, earning a 2nd place finish with 1606.1 points. The Paul Smith's Bobcats would edge to Lakers by a mere 5 points to claim the 1st place trophy.
The Lakers women's division would claim a 2nd place finish as well, earning 1493 points. The Mighty Oaks of SUNY ESF would claim the 1st place finish, with Paul Smith's finishing behind the Lakers in 3rd.
In the men's division, the Lakers would finish 3rd with 1476 points, finishing behind the Bobcats of Paul Smith's (2nd) and the Mighty Oaks of SUNY ESF (1st).
Highlight finishes of the day for the men's division included 1st place finishes in the birling, pole climb, disc stack, and portage canoe events.
The Jack and Jill division dominated most of the day with 1st place finishes in single buck, disc stack, crosscut to hell, bow saw, crosscut saw, pack board, and portage canoe events.
Finally, the women's division earned 1st place finishes in pole climb, single buck, disc stack, singles canoe, and portage canoe to round out an impressive overall team performance for the logging sports teams.
