Lakers Close Season on Three-Game Win Streak

Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Lakers would finish the season on a high note, sweeping SUNY Adirondack on Sophomore Night. Before the games, eight sophomores were honored in recognition of their contributions and dedication to the program over the past two years.

The Lakers saved their best for last, defeating SUNY Adirondack by scores of 10-2 and 10-6 to close out the season on a positive note and extend their winning streak to three games.

Game 1 - The Lakers opened Sophomore Night with a dominant 10-2 victory over SUNY Adirondack behind a balanced offensive performance.

Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) led the way at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI, while Jenna Fowler (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored. Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) added three hits and an RBI, and Isabella Burlew (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) contributed two hits and an RBI while also earning the win in the circle.

Isabella Burlew tossed a complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work. 

The Lakers totaled 10 hits in the victory, closing out game 1 in strong fashion.

Game 2 - The Lakers completed the doubleheader sweep with a 10-6 victory over SUNY Adirondack to close out the season on a three-game winning streak.

Anna Kurtzhalts delivered a historic performance at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a triple, and four RBI. With her two home runs, Kurtzhalts tied the program record for home runs in a single game.

Jenna Fowler added two RBI and two runs scored, while Emma Johnson collected two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run.

Maddy Teague (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) finished with two hits, a triple, and an RBI, while Jenna Keller (Gainesville, N.Y. / Letchworth) added three hits and two runs scored.  In the circle, Isabella Burlew earned the complete-game victory, allowing six runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out three over seven innings of work.

The Lakers totaled 15 hits in the win to cap off Sophomore Night in impressive fashion.

 

The Lakers will return next season with a strong core of returning sophomores and a large freshman class, looking to build on the momentum they gained at the end of the season.
