Lakers Battle but Come Up Short in Four-Game Weekend

Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Lakers took the field for a four-game weekend slate but came up short in each contest. On Saturday, the Lakers hosted Hudson Valley, where they battled in game one before falling 8-3. In game two, Hudson Valley pulled away as the Lakers dropped the contest 12-2.

On Sunday, the Lakers hit the road to face Mohawk Valley. In game one, the Lakers were unable to keep pace, falling 14-6. The Hawks completed the sweep in game two with an 11-1 victory over the Lakers.

Saturday - Hudson Valley 

Game 1 - The Lakers played a tight contest with the Vikings, trailing by just three runs heading into the 7th inning. Mohawk Valley would add to their lead late, and the Lakers were unable to mount a comeback, ultimately falling 14-6.  Shortstop Jenna Fowler (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) was a bright spot for the Lakers, reaching base twice with a single and a walk while also scoring a run.   Gia Bills (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) would also collect hits for the lakers in the loss 

Game 2 -  Game 2 was highlighted by a strong performance at the plate from Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island)  who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and a run scored.  Jenna Fowler and Emma Johnson also contributed offensively, each recording a hit in the contest.  Jenna Keller (Gainesville, N.Y. / Letchworth)Ella Robinson (Hallstead, PA. / Blue Ridge), and Kloey Babcock (Rushville, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) would collect hits in the game for the lakers.  

Sunday - Mohawk Valley

Game 1 - Game 1 saw the lakers in a 1 run battle until the bottom of the 4th when the Hawks would explode for 10 runs ultimatley running away with the game for a 14-6 win.  Leading the charge offensivley was Anna Kurtzhalts who would finishe the day with 2 hits an RBI and a run scored.  Jenna Fowler and Emma Johnson would enjoy nice days at the plate as they both had doubles and 2 RBI's.  

Game 2 - In game two, the Lakers fell behind early and were never able to recover, dropping the contest 11-1.  Gia Bills  continued her strong performance, recording a triple and scoring the Lakers' only run of the game.  Emma Johnson stayed hot at the plate, collecting two hits, including a double.   Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) and Maddy Teague (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) would also pick up hits in the game.

 

The Lakers return to action this Tuesday as they travel to Herkimer for a matchup with the Generals.  First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
