Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Lakers staged a thrilling comeback in Game 2, scoring five runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and secure a 10-9 victory, earning a split with Genesee.
Game 1 featured an early offensive surge from the Cougars that proved too much to overcome, as the Lakers fell 15-6.
Game 1 - Genesee came out hot, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to take control early. The lakers had hits from sophomores Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport), Jenna Keller (Gainesville, N.Y. / Letchworth) and Gia Bills (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima).
Game 2 - The Lakers stayed within striking distance throughout Game 2, setting up a dramatic finish. Entering the seventh inning trailing by four, the Lakers mounted a rally. With the bases loaded, Sophomore Gia Bills (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) delivered in a big moment, driving a ball into the right-center gap for a game-tying inside-the-park grand slam. Shortly after, Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) put the Lakers ahead with an RBI on a fielder's choice, which would stand as the game-winning run.
Jenna Tyczynski (Westmoreland, N.Y. / Westmoreland High School) led the Lakers offensively, going 3-for-5 while also playing stellar defense at third base. Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) added two hits and made a diving catch in center field. Shortstop Jenna Fowler (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) reached base four times, recording a hit and drawing three walks.
In the circle, freshman Isabella Burlew (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) threw a complete game and shut down the Cougars when it mattered most.
