Lakers Earn First Win of the Season with Victory Over Middlesex
Edison, NJ. - The Lakers took the field in New Jersey during their spring break trip and battled their way to a 14-12 victory over the Middlesex Colts. It was a true team win, with contributions coming from every player on the roster.
The Lakers exploded offensively, racking up 18 hits in a dominant team performance. Leading the charge was sophomore Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island), who went an impressive 4-for-5 with six RBIs and four extra-base hits. She set the tone all game long, serving as the catalyst from the leadoff spot.
Backing her up was sophomore catcher Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport), who also turned in a strong performance, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and an extra-base hit. Sophomore Jenna Keller (Gainesville, N.Y. / Letchworth) added three hits of her own, while freshman shortstop Jenna Fowler (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) contributed with two hits and scored twice.
Sophomore pitcher Isabella Burlew (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) made a major impact on both sides of the ball. Continuing her role as a workhorse in the circle, she earned her first collegiate win while also contributing offensively with two hits and two runs scored.
Game 2 was canceled due to darkness.
The Lakers will hit the road Tuesday as they travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College before returning home for their home opener on Thursday.
