Coach Solomon enters his first year (2023) as the head coach of the Finger Lakes men’s volleyball program.
Solomon began his coaching career at FLCC on the womens side in 2018. The 2018 Lakers finished 26-12 (.684), going 8-0 at home and 5-2 in conference play. They made, at the time, their deepest run ever at the NJCAA Region III tournament, dropping a tough match in the finals. In addition, they captured their first ever championship at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament. Freshman Rachel Simmons was selected as an All-American, becoming the first in FLCC program history.
In 2019, Solomon's Lakers posted a 20-15 record, including 5-1 in conference play before falling in the NJCAA Region III Tournament. Solomon ended his 2019 campaign with a record of 46-27 (.630) in his first two seasons on campus.
In the 2021 season, Solomon's Lakers earned a 20-8 record, going 4-2 in conference play. Solomon and the Lakers completed one of the most successful seasons in program history, winning the programs first-ever NJCAA Region III championship in a stunning upset in the finals, enroute to a 7th place finish in the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament. Sophomore Brandy Morrison was named an All-American selection; Solomon's second All-American in his coaching career.
For the 2022 season, Solomon guided the women's volleyball program to their second-straight NJCAA Region III title enroute to their second NJCAA women's volleyball tournament appearance in program history. The Lakers finished the season as the 7th ranked team in the country for NJCAA DIII, and student-athletes Brooke DeGroff (1st-team) and Meghan Johnson (Honorable Mention) were named NJCAA DIII All-Americans.
Prior to FLCC, Solomon was the head coach of the perennial powerhouse, Penfield girls’ volleyball team. His Penfield teams captured the Class AA New York State Championships in 2016 and 2011, and were NYS Finalists in 2014. Between 2010 and 2016, his teams were Monroe County Division I Champions for 7 straight years and made it to the Section V Finals in 6 of 7 years. Solomon was named the All-Greater Rochester Coach of the Year in 2016 as well as 2011. In 2016, after his team finished 50-0 and was ranked in the top 10 in the country, he was named the MaxPreps Girls’ Volleyball National Coach of the Year. https://www.maxpreps.com/news/K94G8auIZEWhnzac5Y6ppA/maxpreps-2016-high-school-all-american-girls-volleyball-team-.htm
