Lakers Earn Convincing Win in Home Opener Over Middlesex

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team advanced to 2-1 on the season, with a victory over Middlesex College on Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers strung together a commanding all-around performance, defeating the Colts 3 sets to none. Sophomores Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) had strong outings, with Lukasiewicz delivering team-highs in both kills and digs with 9 apiece, while Hennessy tallied 8 kills on 15 attempts along with 3 digs and a block. Newcomer Jack Donovan (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) delivered a balanced effort with 7 kills and 4 service aces, while teammate Cole Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Chittenago) accelerated the offense with 25 assists. Thomas also contributed in other departments, bringing in 6 service aces, 3 digs and a block. Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) picked up where he left off from last season, continuing to be a defensive force with 8 digs in the match.
The Lakers take the road all the way to Wisconsin for their next matchup, where they will face off against Bryant & Stratton College on February 14th at 7 PM. This game will be a rematch of last year's semifinal round in which the Lakers emerged victorious, 3-1. The Lakers would then go on to make history, claiming their second-straight NJCAA National Title with wins over the College of DuPage and Monroe College.
