Lakers Battle the Elements, Deliver Strong Performances at Cardinal Classic

Rochester, N.Y. -  Despite battling tough weather conditions the Lakers track and field team turned in a number of strong performances across the board.

On the track, both 4x400m relay teams competed hard, with the men posting a time of 3:58.16 and the women finishing in 5:04.33. In the middle distance events, Hester Van Der Lek (Groningen, Netherlands / CSG Augustinus) highlighted the day by qualifying for Regionals in the 800m with a time of 3:14.17, while also continuing her impressive form in the 1500m with a second consecutive personal record (6:19.97). Megan McGregor (Marion, N.Y. / Marion Jr. Sr. High School) also stayed consistent in the 1500m, earning her third straight personal best with a time of 8:25.38.

In the distance events, William Andrew (Honeoye, N.Y. / Honeoye) delivered a strong performance in the 10k, setting a new personal record with a time of 38:36.67. He was joined by teammates who showed great effort in the event, including Ruairi Steverson (Manchester, N.Y. / Manchester-Shortsville), who stepped up to compete in multiple events and contribute in a big way.

The Lakers also saw near-qualifying performances, as Isabella Murabito (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro High School) came just .05 seconds shy of the regional standard in the 200m, and Griffin Miller (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) turned in a solid effort in the 10k.

Overall, it was a gritty performance by the Lakers, who pushed through the elements and continued to show growth and resilience across all events.
