Lakers Split a Pair at Herkimer

Herkimer, N.Y. - The Lakers traveled to Herkimer College for a doubleheader and came away with a split, taking Game 1 by a score of 9-3 before dropping Game 2, 8-5.

The Lakers baseball team picked up a strong 9-3 victory, controlling the game from start to finish with a complete team performance.

On the mound, Zach Barrett (Kendall, N.Y. / Kendall) (W, 4-1) was outstanding, going 7.0 innings while allowing just six hits and three runs, striking out six and walking two to earn the win.

Offensively, the Lakers were led by Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy), who had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and two RBI. Ty Joy (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw) also delivered a standout performance, finishing 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and a walk. Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge) added a home run, going 1-for-4 with an RBI while scoring four runs.

Nick Prezioso (Pendleton, N.Y. / Starpoint) was a spark at the top of the lineup, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases. Trevor Pickering (Brooklin, ON., Canada / Brooklin High School) added an RBI, and Jimmy Cook (Honeoye / McQuaid Jesuit) chipped in with a sacrifice fly.

In Game 2, the Lakers battled but ultimately fell 8-5 to split the doubleheader.

Offensively, Nate Brinza led the way with a strong performance, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Brennen Russo added an RBI and a stolen base, while Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) picked up a hit and a double.

Ty Joy also contributed with a hit, and Alex Green (Wellsville, N.Y. / Wellsville Secondary School) drove in a run.

The Lakers will travel to SUNY Broome for a doubleheader on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 2 PM.
