Lakers Go 3-3 in Busy Week of Play

Canandaigua, N.Y. - Over the last week, the Finger Lakes Community College baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Tompkins Cortland Community College, split a doubleheader with Genesee Community College, and dropped both games of a home doubleheader to Monroe Community College.

First, on Tuesday, the Lakers (24-16) traveled to Tompkins Cortland Community College and earned wins by scores of 6-5 and 8-1.

Sophomore Ty Joy (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw) and freshman Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy)  each drove in a pair of runs, and freshmen Nick Prezioso (Pendleton, N.Y. / Starpoint) and Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) added an RBI as FLCC took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore Mason McClurg (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks over six innings.

In Game 2, Joy homered and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, and sophomore Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base in the win.

Sophomore Jacob Gould (Gasport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) earned the win, striking out eight while allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Then, playing at Genesee Community College, the Lakers lost the opener, 9-1, but bounced back with an 8-3 win in Game 2.

In Game 1, Huber, Pickering, and Prezioso picked up hits for the lakers with Prezioso collecting the team's lone RBI. 

Game 2 was led on the mound by Freshman Rigth hander Evan Bishop (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge) who tossed a complete game only allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits while striking out 6.  

Lastly, on Sunday, the Lakers fell to the Tribunes by scores of 9-1 and 10-1.

In the opener, Joy was 2-for-4, freshman Jimmy Cook (Honeoye, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) was 2-for-2, and sophomore Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge) had an RBI and stole a base for the Lakers.

In Game 2, Prezioso, sophomore Cal Vogtli (Olean, N.Y./Olean), freshman Kayden Yapjoco (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), and sophomore Alex Green (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville Secondary School) each singled and Cook drove in FLCC's lone run in the loss. 

FLCC travels to Herkimer College on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
