Lakers Earn Split in Season Series vs. Erie

Erie, N.Y. - The Lakers took the field in Western New York on Wednesday, taking on the Erie Kats and earning a split in the doubleheader.  Game one saw the Lakers take a 1-0 lead into the third inning before surrendering four runs in the third and six in the fourth, ultimately falling 11-1. In game two, the Lakers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 13-4 victory.

Game 1 - The Lakers came out strong to start game one, as sophomore center fielder Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) led off with a double. He would later come around to score on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Ty Joy (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw).  That would be all the offense the Lakers could muster, as they fell 11-1.

Brehm and Joy each collected two hits on the day, while freshman Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) and Paul Trippy (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk Senior High School) added one hit apiece.

Game 2 - Game two was an offensive explosion, as the Lakers tallied six extra-base hits, including three home runs. Markus Brehm continued his tremendous day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs while also drawing two walks. Ty Joy also had a strong performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.  Shortstop Nick Prezioso (Pendleton, N.Y. / Starpoint) added to the offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Alex Green (Wellsville, N.Y. / Wellsville Secondary School) had a big day, collecting two hits—both for extra bases. He finished 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in two RBIs.  

On the mound, Sophomore Zach Barrett (Kendall, N.Y. / Kendall) turned in a strong performance, pitching four innings while allowing just two hits and one run, striking out five. Tyler Durow (Wilson, N.Y. / Wilson) closed out the game, pitching the final three innings to secure the save.  

The Lakers will be back in action on April 9 as they wrap up the season series against Onondaga at home.
