Lakers Split Road Doubleheader with Onondaga
Syracuse, N.Y. – The Lakers traveled to Central New York, where they split a doubleheader with the Lazers. In game one, the Lakers rallied after falling behind 4-0, but ultimately came up short in a 9-5 loss. In game two, they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, earning an 8-6 victory.
Game 1 - Game one remained scoreless until the third inning when the Lazers jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Lakers responded in the fourth, as Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) delivered an RBI single, followed by a big RBI triple from Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) to cut the lead to just 2. In the fifth inning, the Lakers continued to battle back, tying the game at 4 on an RBI single by Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton). However, the Lazers regained control late, and the Lakers were unable to respond, ultimately falling 9-5.
Brehm continued his outstanding season at the plate, going 3-for-4. He is now hitting an impressive .528 through 22 games this season.
Game 2 - The Lakers came out swinging in game two, jumping on the offense early with five runs in the first inning and two more in the second. In the top of the first, the Lakers were led by Chase Vogtli (Olean, N.Y. / Olean High School) who drove in a run with an RBI single. In the second inning, freshman Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) delivered a big two-RBI double to give the Lakers a commanding early lead.
Alex Green (Wellsville, N.Y. / Wellsville Secondary School) got the start behind the plate and had a strong day offensively, going 2-for-3. Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) and Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) each added two hits to help pace the Lakers' offense.
Freshman Evan Bishop (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge) turned in a solid performance on the mound, going 4.2 innings while allowing just six hits and one earned run. Alexander Rogers (Waterloo, N.Y. / Waterloo) came on in the seventh inning and shut the door, recording the final outs to earn the save and secure the 8-6 victory.
The Lakers will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. on Tuesday, where they will take on Erie to finish the season series. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
