Lakers Earn Split vs. Erie Before Dropping Two to Niagara
Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Lakers took the field against the Erie Kats and the SUNY Niagara Thunderwolves, earning a win in their opener against Erie before dropping three straight against strong competition.
Game 1 Vs Erie
The Lakers came out swinging in Game 1, scoring all 11 of their runs in the first two innings en route to an 11-1 victory. Center Fielder Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) set the tone, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a stolen base. Trevor Pickering (Brooklin, ON., Canada / Brooklin High School) would add a two run Homerun in the first inning over the center field fence. Nick Prezioso (Pendleton, N.Y. / Starpoint) contributed two hits, including a triple. Landen Guadagno (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) capped the scoring with a three-run home run to the deepest part of the park in the second inning.
On the Mound for the Lakers was Sophomore Nate Power (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) who was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just five hits and striking out four. Eight different Lakers recorded hits in a strong all-around team performance.
Game 2 Vs Erie
The Lakers struck early once again, plating three runs in the first inning. Freshman Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) would hit a sacrafice fly and Trevor Pickering would hit a 2 RBI Tripple to put 3 on the board for the Lakers. Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) and Nate Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) would each pick up 2 hits in the loss.

The Lakers bats were quieted in wet conditions in Western New York, as they managed just three hits in a 10-0 loss. Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park), Trevor Pickering (Brooklin, ON., Canada / Brooklin High School), and Ty Joy (Warsaw, N.Y. / Warsaw) would collect the hits for the Lakers.
Game 2 Vs Niagara
Offense remained hard to come by in Game 2, with the Lakers again totaling just three hits. Zach Huber (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park), Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton), and Nick Prezioso (Pendleton, N.Y. / Starpoint) would collect the hits for the team.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Onondaga for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
