Finger Lakes Names James Angora as Interim Head Baseball Coach
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes Community College has announced James "JT" Angora as the interim head coach of the Lakers baseball program, following the departure of long-time coach Sean Marren, who led the team for 14 seasons.
Marren leaves behind an indelible legacy at FLCC, guiding the Lakers to historic success, including a program-record 40-win season, multiple Mid-State Athletic Conference titles, and several NJCAA Region III Final Four appearances. Most recently, his 2025 squad advanced to the Region III Championship, finishing as runner-up. He was honored multiple times as MSAC and Region III Coach of the Year and built a strong reputation for Lakers baseball in the region.
Angora, a former Laker who played two seasons under Marren before spending the past eight years on his coaching staff, now takes the helm.
"I'm truly excited and honored to take on the head coaching position," said Angora. "Accepting this role has been an emotional and surreal milestone in my career. Having played two years under Coach Marren and spent the past eight seasons alongside him, it's difficult to imagine a different dynamic. This program, shaped so deeply by Coach Marren's passion and leadership, has become home. While the title may change, my commitment to carrying forward his legacy of compassion and love for the program remains the same."
As he prepares for his first season, Angora emphasized player development and maintaining high standards for the program both on and off the field.
"As I step into this first year, I plan to rely on the strength of the young, talented staff we've assembled and to focus heavily on the player development our athletes came here to experience," he explained. "We will continue raising our standards on and off the field, striving to represent our school with pride and integrity."
Recruiting will also remain a cornerstone of his approach.
"I'm eager to invest my offseason in getting out there, connecting with young, up-and-coming talent, and building strong relationships," Angora said. "I aim to uphold and build upon the reputation and credibility Coach Marren spent years establishing."
For Angora, the role carries deep personal significance.
"One of the most defining moments in my career came after my final game as a player, when Coach Marren told me he believed I would one day lead this program," he shared. "That statement has fueled my personal and professional growth ever since. This opportunity has reignited that drive and provided a new energy that I'm incredibly grateful for."
Angora, who comes from a close-knit Italian family, noted that family values will remain at the heart of the program.
"I now have a wife and a two-year-old son who mean the world to me," he said. "I'm excited to build a similar sense of family within our program - an extended support system that brings us all closer together."
The Lakers baseball program will return to action this coming Spring 2026 season with its eyes set on the Region III title.
