Lakers Extend Streak with Sweeps Over Erie and Niagara

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team continued their dominance this season, securing two more 3-0 sweeps over Erie Community College and SUNY Niagara on the road. The wins extended the Lakers' win streak to twelve straight matches, bringing their overall record to 13-2.

The Lakers came out strong against Erie, winning in three decisive sets. Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) led the offensive charge with 14 kills and 2 blocks, totaling 15 points. Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) added 15 kills of her own, hitting .375, and contributed 6 digs. Setter Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) orchestrated the offense with 30 assists while adding 4 digs and an ace. Defensively, Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the back row with 19 digs, anchoring the team's effort in the sweep.

In the second match of the day, the Lakers continued their relentless form, sweeping SUNY Niagara 3-0. Anna Kurtzhalts once again led the way with 14 kills, hitting .258 while adding 15.5 points. Classmates Jackie Neureuter and Emma Balduf (Bergen, N.Y./Byron-Bergen) provided solid offensive support with 4 and 3 kills, respectively. Payton Stoddard was crucial with her serving, racking up 5 service aces and adding 19 assists. Defensively, Michelina Williams contributed 13 digs, playing a key role in limiting Niagara's offensive attack.

The Lakers have now swept five straight opponents and will look to continue their winning streak as they return home for their next pair of matches on Saturday, September 28th against Corning and SUNY Broome Community College at 11 AM and 1 PM.
