The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team completed a successful weekend, earning two wins against SUNY Adirondack and Hudson Valley in their Region III pod on Saturday, September 7th.
In their first match, the Lakers secured a 3-1 victory over SUNY Adirondack. Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) led the offensive charge with 15 kills, while Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) added 13 kills and 12 digs to help the Lakers take control. Kayce Hennekey (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) also contributed 7 kills, while setter Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) kept the offense running smoothly with 38 assists and 7 digs. Defensively, Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the way with 17 digs.
The Lakers dominated Hudson Valley in their second match of the day with a 3-0 sweep. Karynn Price (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) led the attack with 6 kills on a .462 hitting percentage, while Jackie Neureuter continued her strong performance with 8 kills and 10 points. Stoddard added 22 assists and 6 digs, with Emily Jordan (Portville, N.Y./Portville) serving up 4 aces. Williams posted 11 digs defensively, while Lillie Marsh (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) contributed to the defensive effort with a block.
With these two wins, the Lakers improved their season record to 7-2, continuing their strong start and extending their win streak to 6. The Lakers are back on the road on Saturday, September 14th for a Region III pod at Monroe Community College. In the pod, the Lakers will face off against the nationally ranked #10 Fulton-Montgomery Raiders, before concluding their day with a match with the SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers.
