CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team came up just short in a defensive showdown, falling to Jamestown Community College 57-50 on Sunday evening.
Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) led the Lakers' efforts, each scoring 18 points. Lewis recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Alexander was a force at the free-throw line, converting 11-of-13 attempts. Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) added 8 points, and Kierra Shaughnessy (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) pulled down 8 rebounds.
Despite shooting an efficient 83% from the free-throw line, the Lakers struggled offensively, connecting on just 35% of their shots from the field and 23% from beyond the arc. Turnovers proved costly, with FLCC committing 28 giveaways that Jamestown converted into key points.
The Lakers (10-14, 7-7) wrap up the 2024-25 regular season and will shift their focus to the NJCAA Region III tournament were the Lakers currently sit as the 8th seed. With several teams yet to finish regional play, the Lakers will patiently wait for their next opponent.
