CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team celebrated sophomore night with a commanding 26-point victory over the Spartans of Cayuga Community College. The Lakers dominated in all facets of the game, holding the Spartans to just 41 points – which marks the 5th game of the season in which they have held their opposition to under 50 points through 4 quarters of play.
Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) played the full 40 minutes and was a big component of the win, recording a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Lewis also nabbed 6 steals, while Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) dropped a team-high 20 points, sinking 5-of-9 three pointers. Eliana Mason (Frederick, M.D./New Life Chrstian) had herself an efficient outing off the bench, chipping in 11 points on 4-6 field goals, going 2-2 from beyond the arc.
The Lakers imposed a suffocating defense, forcing their opposition into 22 turnovers. Furthermore, they were able to guard the perimeter exceptionally well as the Spartans shot 1-23 from the 3-point line and just 12-52 overall.
The Lakers' next matchup, which marks the start of a 4-game road stretch, will be against the Hornets of SUNY Broome on Thursday, February 6th at 6 PM. This will be the second time these two teams face off this season, with the Lakers winning the first matchup 59-37 back in January.
