Kingsfield Earns Athlete of the Week Honor
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Lakers Softball battled in back-to-back games against Penn State Mont Alto, falling to 2-0. "we came out swinging, literally, against Mont Alto. We scored early, put up a ton of runs, and just couldnt quite finish", stated Head Coach Julianna Sherman. However, the Lakers proved resilent, coming back the next day to sweep Ocean County Community College and improve to 2-2, "despite the losses, our team really grew through those two games, and made some awesome strides", Sherman added, "we came together, trusted each other, and played as a unit...If we keep trusting each other the way we did Sunday (at Ocean County), I think we will suprise a lot of people this season".
A team effort led to the Lakers impressive win, however, one student-athlete stood out amongst the talented group. Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, N.Y./ Forestville) was consistent throughout the Lakers 4-game road stretch, going 8-13 at the plate, good for a .615 batting average. Kingsfield would put her impressive baserunning on display, stealing 5 bases over the weekend and scoring 7 runs to put the Lakers on the board. At the plate, Kingsfield would drive home 6 runners, add 2 doubles and homerun to cap off the weekend.
Thanks to her impressive road stretch, Kingsfield was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region III, Athlete of the Week for the week of March 13th - 20th.
