JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College softball team traveled to Jamestown Community College for a doubleheader on Tuesday, and the Lakers emerged with a split.
FLCC (8-24) took the opener by a score of 7-3 before falling 12-2 in five innings in game two vs. the Jayhawks (3-15).
Game One
Freshman Deanna Palmer (Auburn, NY/Auburn) doubled, homered and finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and sophomore Ava Breuer (Fillmore, NY/Fillmore) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for FLCC.
Freshman Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, NY/Forestville) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and classmate Kalyska Payne (Savona, NY/Campbell-Savona) earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts over seven effective innings. She also helped herself at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a run scored for the Lakers.
The Lakers scored twice in the top of the first inning, but the Jayhawks cut the lead in half by scoring once in the bottom of the frame. The score remained the same until the fifth, when FLCC pushed across four runs to seize control of the opener.
Game Two
Sophomore Hannah Capacci (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, classmate Trinity Maestre (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) doubled and drove in a run, and Palmer added an RBI for FLCC.
The Lakers conclude the regular season on Sunday, hosting Genesee Community College for a Sophomore Day doubleheader. First pitch is slated for noon.
