CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team bounced back from their last outing and recorded a 69-59 victory over the Hornets of SUNY Broome on Wednesday evening.
Kellen Foster (Newark, N.Y./Newark) led the offensive charge, notching a team-high and career-high 24 points. Foster shot a level 50% from the field, and crashed the glass with 8 rebounds. Bruce Wilder Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) provided a spark from the midrange, dropping in 13 points and 4 rebounds.
Teammates Anthony Torres (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Brian Whitley (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) had efficient outings. Torres logged 37 minutes on the night and was effective in multiple departments, chipping in 17 points along with 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Whitley concluded the night with a near double-double, finishing with 12 points and 9 rebounds — going 6-11 from the field.
The Lakers were most efficient from inside the paint, with 67% of their total points coming from that area. They held their opposition to just 38% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc. Moreover, their stifling defense forced the Hornets into 27 turnovers which the Lakers capitalized on.
The Lakers will look to build on this momentum, as they continue their homestand against the Saints of North Country Community College on Saturday, January 18th at 3 PM.
