Strong Effort Falls Short as Lakers Battle Genesee, 82-75

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team put forth a valiant effort against Genesee Community College, a team receiving votes in the NJCAA DIII National Rankings, but ultimately fell 82-75 in a hard-fought contest at home.

Anthony Torres (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) led the Lakers with a stellar performance, scoring 24 points on 10-17 shooting, including 4-7 from three-point range. Torres also added 5 assists and 5 rebounds, keeping the Lakers competitive throughout the game. Kellen Foster (Newark, N.Y./Newark) chipped in 17 points, shooting 50% from the field and knocking down 3 of 7 from beyond the arc.

In the post, Brian Whitley (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) was a force with a double-double, contributing 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while also adding a block and a steal. Bruce Wilder Jr. (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added 12 points and 4 rebounds, providing a consistent scoring presence inside. Joe Caito (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) rounded out the starters with 6 points and 3 rebounds, while Nate Doll (Caledonia, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford) came off the bench to grab 8 rebounds and add 4 points.

The Lakers shot an impressive 50.0% from the field and hit 40.0% from three-point range, but 23 turnovers proved costly. Despite the loss, the Lakers' will carry momentum from a strong overall performance into their next game on Wednesday, January 15th at 7 PM against SUNY Broome.
