Lakers Open Home Slate with Doubleheader Sweep of Mohawk Valley

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team delivered a strong performance in their home opener, taking both games of a doubleheader against Mohawk Valley Community College. The Lakers claimed a 6-3 victory in the opener before cruising to a 10-0 shutout in game two.

The Lakers (6-4) showcased a balanced attack, combining timely hitting with solid pitching to secure the sweep. Christian Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) provided the go-ahead RBIs in game one, while Nathan Power (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Tino Tiermini (Irondequoit, N.Y./West Irondequoit) combined for a dominant pitching performance in the nightcap.

Finger Lakes trailed 3-2 in the fourth inning of game one before Ryan Donovan (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) delivered a two-run double to put the Lakers ahead. Nate Hill (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) added an RBI groundout, and Christian Morrison capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly. On the mound, Aiden Reed (Shortsville, N.Y./Red Jacket) went four innings, allowing three runs, while Trenton Muck (Lyndonville, N.Y./Lyndonville) tossed three shutout frames to earn the win.

Game two was all Lakers, as Jacob Gould (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) and Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y./Eastridge) each drove in three runs. The Lakers broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning, highlighted by Gould's RBI triple and a run-scoring single from Brennan Russo. Nathan Power was dominant on the mound, striking out seven over five shutout innings while allowing just one hit. Tino Tiermini closed it out with a perfect inning in relief.

Finger Lakes will look to build on its momentum and five-game win streak next Tuesday, March 18th at Westmoreland Community College for a 2 PM and 4:30 PM doubleheader.
