Volleyball Goes 0-3 At Regional Tournament

SANBORN, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Volleyball team played in the NJCAA Region III Tournament on Saturday. The Lakers went 0-3, ending their 2019 season. The Lakers played the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers, the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks, and the Genesee Community College Cougars.

Match One

In their first match of the day, the Lakers played the Cannoneers from Jefferson CC. In the regular season, the Lakers could only manage to get one win out of their three matches. 

In the first set, the Lakers had nine kills, seven errors, and 39 total attack attempts. The Cannoneers would take the set 25-18.

In the second set, the Lakers had 13 kills, one error, and 29 total attack attempts. The Cannoneers would take this one as well, 25-16.

In the final set, the Lakers had eight kills, seven errors, and 36 total attack attempts. The Cannoneers took this set 25-12. The final score would be 3-0.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Katie Harmon with 11 kills, one service ace, and seven digs, Brandy Morrison with 10 kills, and one dig, and Brookelyn Kunzer with 30 assists, and nine digs.

Match Two

In the second match of the day, the Lakers took on the Jayhawks of Jamestown CC. The Lakers had only previously played them in one match, and they lost 3-0.

In the first set, the Lakers had 13 kills, five errors, and 33 total attack attempts. The Lakers came out on top of this set 25-23.

In the second set, the Lakers had five kills, five errors, and 34 total attack attempts. The Jayhawks took this one 25-13.

In the final set, the Lakers had 10 kills, three errors, and 24 total attack attempts. The Jayhawks would finish the set winning 25-19. The final score was 2-1 in favor of the Jayhawks

Game leaders for the Lakers were Morrison with 10 kills and two digs, Harmon with eight kills, one service ace, 11 digs, and one block, and Kunzer with 28 assists and seven digs.

Match Three

In the final match of the day the Lakers faced the Cougars of Genesee CC. The Lakers saw the Cougars once in the regular season, and lost 3-1.

In the first set, the Lakers had four kills, four errors, and 30 total attack attempts. The Cougars took this set 25-21.

In the second set, the Lakers had five kills, four errors, and 24 total attack attempts. The Cougars took this set again, 25-8.

In their final set of the day, the Lakers had four kills, seven errors, and 32 total attack attempts. The Cougars came out on top 25-21. The Cougars won 3-0.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Morrison with seven kills, one dig and three blocks, Kady Pierce with 13 assists and six digs, and Kellie Johnson with 17 digs.

This would finish out the Lakers season. They will say goodbye to their only sophomore, Kady Pierce.
