The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Volleyball team dropped their first Mid-State Athletic Conference match to Onondaga Community College in three sets (24-26, 22-25, 18-25). The Lazers jumped out to an early 11-7 lead in the first set, but the Lakers were able to rally and build momentum off of strong serving from Mary Beth Schram. The Lakers tied things up at 17-17 where they battled point for point with Onondaga. In the end the Lazers were able to pull ahead to take the first set. During the second set, Finger Lakes and Onondaga traded points with Onondaga building a late lead which led to them taking set two. The Lazers strong defense ended up being too much for the Lakers and they lost in three.
Ryenn Smith led the Lakers with 14 kills, 8 digs and 1 solo block. Ali Drier and Meagan Voss rounded out the offense with 4 and 3 kills respectively. Aubrey Davis set a well balanced offense with 20 assists. Jessica Carder led all defenders with 11 digs and Kylee Vasile had 7 digs and 1 ace.
With the loss the Lakers fall to 1-3 overall. They will travel this Saturday to Jefferson Community College for the Jefferson Invitational Tournament. During pool play they will face off against Corning Community College, Jefferson Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College. The tournament will host 8 teams. At the conclusion of pool play the top two teams in each pool will advance to the play off round.
