CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.-- The Finger Lakes volleyball team went 1-2 at the Regional Pod that was hosted by the Lakers. The Lakers took down Erie Community College in the first match of the day in three (25-12, 25-17, 25-7), only to drop the next two matches in three to Niagara County Community College (23-25, 19-25, 20-25) and Jamestown Community College (15-25, 15-25, 11-25).
The Lakers had consistent play from all members that led to the win against the Erie Community College Kats. In all three sets, the Lakers jumped out to early leads that they were able to maintain throughout. Ryenn Smith had 10 kills and 6 digs with Christina Denniston contributing 13 digs. Morgan Carr and Bridget Whitehair had 11 and 10 assists respectively. Whitehair also had 3 kills, 1 ace, and 6 digs. Ali Drier rounded out the offense with 5 kills.
The Lakers battled against the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves in the second match of the day, with all three sets being close in score. Ryen Smith had 15 kills, which was her highest kill total on the day. She also chipped in 11 digs and 1 ace. Bridget Whitehair had another consistent performance with 4 kills and 10 assists. Morgan Carr also paced the offense with 10 assists.
In the last match of the day the Lakers fell to Jamestown and were unable to counter against their aggressive serving and attacking. Smith and Courtney Bradish had 7 and 4 kills respectively. Bridget Whitehair chipped in 3 kills and 5 digs.
The Lakers are set to host Genesee Community College this Tuesday, October 1st at 6 p.m.
