CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women’s Soccer team beat the Niagara County Thunderwolves on Wednesday. The Lakers walked away with an 8-1 victory.
Despite the early majority Thunderwolves possession in the beginning of the game, the Lakers managed to out-score them 4-0 in the first half. The first goal of the game was scored by Allison Page. Jessica Williams saw Page open up the middle of field, passed her the ball, and Page scored. Later on in the half, Colby Kutzer dribbled the ball up the left side of the field and found an open Stephany McBride who took the shot and scored. Kutzer then stole the ball from a Niagara County defender, and dribbled the ball up and scored. For the final goal of the half, Williams found the back of the net from a header pass from Kutzer. The Thunderwolves ended up out-shooting the Lakers in the first half 15-9, but goal keeper Isabella Prest held them scoreless.
The first goal of the second half was scored by Kutzer off of a few rebounds after a corner kick. She was unassisted. Later on, the Lakers got the opportunity for a goal kick. Williams took the kick, and ended up scoring from a rebound off of a Niagara County defender. Kutzer scored her 2nd goal of the half off of a pass from the right side from Page. The Final goal for the Laker’s was scored by Williams from a long ball from McBride. The Thunderwolves scored the final, and their only goal of the game. Their goal was scored by Alexis Fyock and assisted by Cristina Catalano and Alexis Lilly.
Game Leaders for the Lakers were Kutzer with 3 goals and 2 assists, Williams with 3 goals and 1 assist, and Prest with 15 saves.
The Lakers will play next at home on Saturday, October 7th. They will play Tompkins Cortland Community College at 1:00pm.
