Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime

BATAVIA, NY -- The Finger Lakes Women's Soccer team fell to nationally ranked Genesee Community College 2-1 in overtime. The Lakers are now 7-6-1 on the season and 7-6 in Region III play.

The Lakers got out to a fast start with a couple of shots early on. The Cougars would settle into the game however and control the play for most of the first half. Genesee held the advantage in shots 9-2. The Cougars found the back of the net in the 22nd minute and held a 1-0 advantage at halftime. 

The second have played a lot like the first, with Genesee holding the shots advantage 13-3. Brittany Maggio would get loose for the Lakers in the 77th minute however and score to draw the game level at 1-1. That score remained after 90 minutes of play and the game went to overtime. Genesee would score with 1:47 remaining in the first overtime period for the 2-1 victory.

Daniele Ogrodowski had eight stops in net for the Lakers. Ariel Wood and Gabrielle Kwiatek joined Maggio with shots on goal in the contest.

The Lakers have the weekend off before playing thier final match of the regular season next Wednesday. Finger Lakes will host Fulton-Montgomery on October 22nd at 2pm.
