SANBORN, NY -- The Finger Lakes Women's Soccer team defeated Niagara County Community College on Wednesday by the score of 6-0. It was the second straight shutout for the Lakers, who now move above .500 in regional play and overall. The Lakers have a 6-5 regional record and are 6-5-1 overall on the season.
The Lakers got on the board in the 20th minute when Brittany Maggio beat the Thunderwolves keeper. Just 30 seconds later, Maggio would set up Tessa Stone for her first career goal and a 2-0 Lakers lead. Maggio would net her second of the game in the 31st minute and Finger Lakes carried a 3-0 advantage into the break.
Maggio would open the scoring in the second half as well with her third goal of the game. It was her second consecutive hat trick and fourth of the season. Rachel Graves and Trista Hawke rounded out the scoring for the Lakers. Ariel Wood had a pair of assists for Finger Lakes and Daniele Ogrodowski got the shutout in net.
Finger Lakes will travel to Dryden, NY on Saturday to face Tompkins Cortland Community College. Both teams are fighting in the standings to host a regional playoff game. Kickoff with the Panthers is set for 1pm.
