Lakers Offense Remains Hot

CANANDAIGUA -- Brittany Maggio had her second four goal game of the season to lead Finger Lakes over Jefferson Community College in Mid-State Athletic Conference action. The Lakers are now 10-3 on the season and 3-1 in conference.

Finger Lakes got out to a fast start on the Cannoneers, scoring in the first three minutes of the game. Brittany Maggio took a Brittani Bove pass on the right side of the box, dribbled back towards center and beat the goalie on the lower left side for a 1-0 lead. Maggio would double the lead with a goal just 8 minutes later, this time off of a pass by McKenzie Miller.  The Lakers would continue pressure in the first half with the offensive trio of Maggio, Miller, and Danielle VonHahmann each recording multiple shots, but Jefferson's keeper, Kate Gehrke was up to the task and recorded 11 saves on the half.

The Cannoneers would strike early in the second half. Just a minute and a half in, Whitney Maitland would dribble into the Lakers box. The initial attempt would sneak under Daniele Ogrodowski's arm but Maitland would finish it into the back of the net to narrow the margin to 2-1. Maggio would answer quickly, though, with a pair of goals in a three minute margin to make it a 4-1 match. Rachel Graves would score the fifth goal of the game for the Lakers in the 53rd minute. She would get the ball near midfield, and dribble past and around multiple Cannoneer defenders before beating the goalie. Danielle VonHahmann would score two goals in a 26 second span and Kailey Reddick and Alyssa Norman added late goals to lift the Lakers to the 9-1 final.

The Lady Lakers are back home on Saturday against Corning Community College. The Region III West and Mid-State Athletic Conference match with start at 1pm.
