CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team won the 2018 Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) Championship this afternoon against the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers. The Lakers won 64-61.
It was a close game throughout all four quarters. The Lakers started off behind in the first quarter. They were down 20-12. The Panthers were shutting down Ranaveya Richards in the paint, forcing Sarah Lacey to score most of the Laker's points.
When the second quarter came, the Lakers found their rhythm and scored 28 points to pushing them into the lead at the half. They kept the lead, but the Panthers were chipping away at the score. It wasn't until four minutes and thirty seconds left in the game that Jaida Washington finally pulled the Panthers back into the lead. The score went back and forth from there until Megan McAllister made a jump shot to put the Lakers back into their final lead.
Since the Lakers won the Championship, the MSAC Tournament MVP was given to Lacey for her phenomenal performance in their games against both Jefferson and Tompkins Cortland.
Game leaders for the Lakers were Lacey with 28 points, 16 rebounds, and Richards with 12 points and eight assists.
The Lakers will now host the Region III Quarterfinal game against Fulton-Montgomery Community College. They will play on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00pm.
