CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team fell to the Columbia-Greene Community College Twins, ending their six game win streak, on Saturday in overtime. The Lakers lost 91-82.
The game started out in the Laker's favor with them being up 12-3 at one point in the first quarter. The Twins were not going to let that deficit get to them, and brought the score up to 15-15 at the end of the first.
The Twins had their best quarter in the second. They outscored the Lakers 27-15 making the score 42-30. After the half, the Lakers started to score some more points. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that they really came back. The Lakers outscore the Twins 26-14 in the fourth quarter. With 37 seconds left in the game, first year, Mackenzie Hamer made a three point shot, tying the game, and forcing the Twins into overtime.
Overtime started with some confusion. The teams were lined up in the wrong direction at tip-off. The Lakers won the tip, and drove in for a quick lay-up. The confusion forced the basket to count for the Twins. The Lakers came back and scored on the correct basket and the game was back to normal. The five extra minutes wasn't enough for the Lakers and they fell 91-82 at the end of OT.
Both teams were pretty close in field goal percentage. The Twins shot 41.8%, while the Lakers shot 43.8%. The Lakers also dominated with a 31.3% in threes while the Twins only shot 28.6%.
The Lakers will take some time off for their winter break, but will be back on campus to play on Saturday, January 6th to play Genesee Community College. They will play at home, at 12:00pm.
