Lakers Win in Double OT

The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team defeated Genesee Community College last night in double overtime by a final score of 78-73.  The Lakers are now 2-5 on the season.

Last night was an exciting matchup between two NJCAA Region III teams, the Lakers and the Cougars.  There were 10 lead changes and 9 ties during the game.  By the end of the first quarter the score was tied 17 all.  The Cougars pulled ahead in the second quarter, outscoring the Lakers 18-11.  By halftime the score was 35-28 in favor of Genesee.

The Lakers rallied in the third quarter outscoring the opposition 25-15.  Both teams were very evenly matched in the final quarter of regulation play.  By the end of the fourth quarter the score was tied at 63.  One overtime period would not be enough to decide a victor as both teams scored 8 points a piece.  As the second overtime period began, the Lakers took control of the game.  Finger Lakes eventually won by a score of 78-73 in double overtime.

All five starters for the Lakers produced double didgit points.  Shelby Dugan and Megan Howell led the Lakers with 18 points a piece.  Michelle Broderick and Monica Brennan added another 12 points a piece for the Lakers.  Amanda Webb produced another 10 points for Finger Lakes in last nights victory over Genesee.

The Lakers will remain on the road this weekend as they travel to face Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday, 12/5 and SUNY Adirondack on Sunday, 12/6.
