Lakers Fall to Ranked Onondaga

CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Women's Basketball team fell to Onondaga Community College 97-51 on Saturday. The game was the regular season finale for the Lakers, who finished 12-12 with a conference record of 7-5.

Finger Lakes came out early with strong defense and timely shooting to hold back the Lazers early. Alexis Maiorano would answer an Onondaga three with a three pointer of her own. The game would be tied at 6-6, four minutes in. Onondaga would widen the lead with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to make it 18-8. Alex Shepard would make a pair of free throws to make it a 10 point game, 20-10 halfway through the half, but the Lazers would go on a 30-8 run over the next 10 minutes to end the half and carry a 50-18 lead into halftime.

Alexis Maiorano led the Lakers with five points at the half. Ashley Armstrong and Alex Shepard each had four points. Shepard also added four rebounds for Finger Lakes.

Onondaga would not look back in the second half. The Lazers would widen the margin to 40 points six minutes into the half and would continue onto a 97-41 victory.

Maiorano ended up leading the Lakers in scoring with nine points in her final home game. Kelly Broderick, also a sophomore, added six points for Finger Lakes. Ashley Armstrong also finished with six points. Daniele Ogrodowski added eight rebounds, all of which came on the offensive end. The effort tied Ogrodowski's career-high.

The Lakers qualified for the Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend. They will be the #3 seed and take on #2 Jefferson Community College on Friday night. The tournament will be hosted by Onondaga Community College.
