Finger Lakes Falls at Ranked Onondaga

SYRACUSE, NY -- The Finger Lakes Women's Basketball team fell at #2 ranked Onondaga Community College, 94-65, on Wednesday. The Lakers are now 6-9 on the season and 3-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

The game started off with a quick, back and forth pace, matching Onondaga's style of play. They would use that to their advantage and opened a 15-6 lead eight minutes into the half. Finger Lakes would use some fast passing to break the Lazer press multiple times. Taylor Guerin found Ryenn Smith along the right sideline who passed it to Daniele Ogrodowski in the middle for the easy layup. Ogrodowski would later find Alex Shepard on the break for the bucket and make it a 10 point game, 27-17, with seven minutes to play. Onondaga, now leading 34-22, would go on a 12-0 run in the later moments of the half to widen the margin to 47-22. An Ashley Armstrong three pointer would end the run, but Onondaga would carry a 50-27 lead into the half.

Armstrong led the Lakers in the half with 10 points. Alex Shepard added six points and six rebounds and Kelly Broderick had four points and five rebounds for Finger Lakes.

The second half would see the Lakers continue to fight to stay in the game. Onondaga would balloon their lead early, but the Lakers would fight back behind Ashley Armstrong. She would drill a three, then steal the ball and make a pair of free throws to make it 68-41 with 12 minutes to play. Armstrong would then find Daniele Ogrodowski under the basket for the basket and foul. Armstrong would make a pair of acrobatic layups in transition, her final bringing the margin down to 18, 78-60 with 6:30 remaining. That would be as close as it would get as the Lakers would fall to the Lady Lazers 94-65.

Armstrong finished with a career-high 29 points. She was 10-14 from the field and added five assists. Daniele Ogrodowski joined her in double figures with 11 points. Kelly Broderick would add four points to go with her team-high seven rebounds. Alex Shepard also added six points and six rebounds.

The Lakers remain on the road this Saturday as they take on Tompkins Cortland Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2pm.
