Lady Lakers Fall on Road to Cayuga

Lady Lakers Fall on Road to Cayuga

AUBURN, NY. – Trailing by as many as 23 points in the second half of tonight's road game against Cayuga Community College (Lady Spartans), the Finger Lakers Community College Lady Lakers (13-13) came up just short of completing one of the largest comebacks in school history for women's basketball. The Lady Lakers closed the gap to 2 points with just under two minutes to play, but couldn't muster enough offense down the stretch to finish off an epic comeback against the Spartans. The Spartans went on to win, 84-81, splitting their two-game season series against the Lady Lakers.

FLCC saw three of its players reach double figures in scoring tonight. Freshman sensation (guard) Cassandra Strait (Dundee, NY) led the Lady Lakers in scoring with 32 points. Strait was one free-throw shy of having a perfect night from the free-throw line. She finished the game 10-11 from the charity stripe. Strait also poured in 4 three-point field goals, tying freshman teammate (guard) Kelli McCauley (Irondequoit, NY) for team-high honors.

McCauley was the second leading scorer tonight for FLCC. She finished the game with 18 points in the losing effort.

Freshman forward Britany Monpere (Palmyra, NY) added 13 points and handed out a team-high 4 assists for the Lady Lakers.

Freshman forward Ashley House (Hammondsport, NY) controlled the glass for FLCC by pulling down a team-high 7 rebounds.

The Lady Lakers will return to the hardwood this Saturday (2/18) for their final home game of the 2011-12 season. They will take on Onondaga Community College at 1:00 p.m.
