Smith Seals Win for Lady Lakers in Consolation Game at Pete Pavia Memorial Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY. – Freshman forward Jordan Smith (Lyons) delivered the game winning basket on Sunday (12/11) for the Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers (7-6) against Oakland Community College of Detroit, MI (Division II member) in a consolation game at the Pete Pavia Memorial Tournament (held at Monroe Community College). Smith broke the 77-77 tied game with 29 seconds remaining in the second half by hitting a clutch 2-point field-goal, sealing the win for the Lady Lakers, 79-77. Smith's game winning points came off of her own offensive rebound. Overall, she finished the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

FLCC saw two of its marquee freshman guards surpass the 20-point plateau on Sunday. Cassandra Strait (Dundee) and Kelli McCauley (Irondequoit) each turned in 23-point performances. With the 23-point game, Strait solidified a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Freshman guard Britany Monpere (Palmyra-Macedon) added 13 points and 13 rebounds for FLCC in the win.

The Lady Lakers are now off for the remainder of 2011 as well as the beginning of (January) 2012. They will return to the court on Tuesday, 1/10/12 for a home matchup against Tompkins-Cortland Community College. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
